Message from the CED
Ethiopia is experiencing new realities, in that, positive changes that are promising, progressive and interwoven. It is not easy to highlight all the promising new realities in this rather short message. However, the country’s economic performance, with a double digit economic growth rate, has been remarkable, broad-based, touching every spectrum of economic activity, and hence worth single out and emphasize. In particular, the construction sector has gained momentum, industrial prowess and hence is booming. In cement manufacturing, which endows the construction sector with the critical construction material, cement, the country has experienced relative transformation. Cement output has increased faster than the rate of growth in GDP. Prices are declining. The progress attained in the cement sector has completely turned around the dependence on imports and ended up the era of shortages and ever escalating prices.
