Derba Cement Commences Sales

Derba MIDROC Cement which is part of huge industries commencement in Ethiopia has started production after 38 months of construction.

Derba MIDROC Cement is built at a cost of $600million in aggregate, which is over 10 billion Birr. The Factory is built at a cost of $351 million. $211 million was allocated to buy 1000 heavy trucks for the sister company Derba Transport. A separate factory that produces over 80 million bags a year, constructed at a cost of $25 million, is also part of the project.

Chief Executive Officer of Derba MIDROC Cement, Haile Asegide said the Factory’s commencement of production is good news for the construction sector both in terms of supply and price. The factory would produce 25 million quintals of cement a year.

Advisor of Sheik Mohamed Alamoudi, owner of the Factory, Nebiyou Samuel said Derba would be changed into a medium town as a result of the Factory. 500 condominium houses would also be built for workers of the factory, he said.

According to Nebiyou, health institutions, roads and training centers are already built in the area for the local community. He said there are plans to build schools, adding these are indicatives of the company’s commitment for the benefit of the community.

The Factory has also invested $16 million to prevent environmental pollution.

Derba MIDROC Cement would be officially inaugurated on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
